I am sorry to have to bring this matter to your attention, but my calls to reporter Ann-Marie Newhardt have been to no avail. The article headlined "Small Potatoes -- The City Coalition's Inner-City Garden Program" gave an inaccurate account of our group's efforts to establish a community self-help program. Specifically, it is not true that administrative costs consume 55% of our budget. As you can see from the attached annual report, our administrative costs are only 22% of our budget, well within the range of similar organizations. Ms. Newhardt may have been relying on verbal information from outside sources.
We would greatly appreciate it if you would print this letter and/or a correction in your next issue. We would not want a fine program damaged by an inaccurate impression.
